I had some time to spare tonight and many members of the Midway boards have been requesting a piece of Kung Lao for quite a long time... and so tonight I gave in because I just wanted to draw that hat so bad lol

Not much to add except that it took me a little under 2 hours. :)

Using a lot of shadows helps with a LOT of shortcuts when done right ;)

I usually have a good idea of what I want to begin with. Sometimes it comes out exactly as planned, sometimes it doesn't. In this case, he was supposed to have his back at us and look back with his eyes hidden by the shadow of his hat. Sadly, the first sketch obviously revealed it wouldn't be a good idea.

So I went with my next thought: having him stand straight, ready to fight, with his hat still hiding his eyes. Either way, he would have been standing straight with his hat providing heavy shadows.
