"No," he says. "Don't take off the handcuffs. They help hold me together." "You might need your hands," says Gale. "When I feel myself slipping, I dig my wrists into them, and the pain helps me focus," says Peeta. ~ Mockingjay

“Ally." Peeta says the words slowly, tasting it. "Friend. Lover. Victor. Enemy. Fiancee. Target. Mutt. Neighbor. Hunter. Tribute. Ally. I'll add it to the list of words I use to try to figure you out. The problem is, I can't tell what's real anymore, and what's made up.” ~ Mockingjay
-----------
One of the most heartbreaking part of Mockingjay, if not the whole series, is seeing Peeta, who used to be so composed, break down after he's rescued from the Capitol. How confused and violent he is, which is the exact opposite of what Peeta Mellark represents. Those two parts above, along with how he discovers that the false memories of his highjacking 'shimmer' really got to me. The shimmering of he false memories is pretty easy to see in the pic. And I wanted to show, with the cuffs, how much he fought and struggled to keep control.
This was quite the process for the pic, but I'm satisfied with how this came out. His expression at first was more solemn and quiet. Then I decided I really wanted him to seem in pain and conflicted. I'll be honest, it pained me so much that I nearly reverted the expression back to what it was previously. D:
IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL. i'm offically in love with Peeta since the 1st book. sometimes i got angry when Katniss can't love him truely and since the hijacking she push him away. i always feel the pain of him. the 3rd one is my favorite, it's much related to the real world, more like the liberation war of my country. I love your work, love the book (especially the epilogue. I was happy that they found happinss at last.)
I agree completely. I adored him in the first book, but at the same time, I like that Katniss does what she does. Makes her human, you know? She wishes she could have her old Peeta back and she can't.... And yeah, the third book is also my favorite of the three. And I'm glad to find someone else who like the epilogue too!
Peeta has always been my favorite and to see the struggles he went through in Mockingjay just completely tore my heart out.
