When You Find Your Art Elsewhere....

UPDATE 1 (June 2nd)

I decided to try to have it removed from Photobucket. I asked politely and provided links to this image and my own. Funny, I didn't think it would be such a hassle to have a stolen image removed but apparently it is. Photobucket wants me to include a copy of the piece (because the one in my portfolio isn't good enough apparently (they say a direct link like I never shared one when I contacted them), my ADDRESS and PHONE NUMBER. I don't think so. Furthermore, they want me to include a bunch of copyright bullshit. It's a FANART! I only hold copyrights over the piece and NOT the character. It wouldn't work properly.

Well anyways, I'm gonna try to contact the person who holds the account. I tried through Photobucket but it didn't work. That's when I made the request to have the piece removed. I managed to find the user on YouTube and hopefully that will work. I just wanna know where he/she found it so I can track the source. If that fails, I'll contact Photobucket again and let them know of my discontentment.

------------------------------------------------

I'm generally flattered when someone posts my art elsewhere. I'll ask the person to either credit me if credit was not given and move on.

However, when I find things like this: [link] I find it very sad.
Here's the original: [link]

See anything missing? Look at the first link and the second link. See it now? Yep! My signature was blotched out. Honestly, how rude do you have to be?

The reason why I didn't report it, however, is that my watermark was not removed. Couldn't blotch out her boobs, huh?

I've recieved messages in the past asking me why I felt the need to add watermarks: that's why. I'm more clever at hiding the watermarks now, but that's the only difference. That's why many artists on DA feel the need to watermark their pieces so much that it ruins the wonderful pieces.

Yep, sad.

Very effin' sad.

Geeze, they're really going to turn this into a net war, aren't they?

looking closer, that Photobucket user has plenty of other pieces where the signature was not removed, so I think s/he's just an MK fan who wants to collect a gallery full of fave works ..

So yes, I think the best course is to message politely and ask where your pic was downloaded from .. cos THAT source, is very likely someone claiming to be the artist~!
(my money's somewhere on FaceBook ..)

Photobucket has millions of articles of stolen art, but as no-one makes money off them, they don't care;
*if you really want the pic removed from there, report it for cleavage and a hint of nipple, it will disappear quick smart ;)

Yeah that was my guess. That's why I'm trying to find where he/she found it.

LOL I dunno if it'll disapear this quickly. After everything Photobucket asks of me (and I didn't even ask for copyright infringement, it was "another infringement" or some such), it really makes me wonder.

We'll see. Hopefully I'll have an answer sooner than later. :)

That is SUCH a shame. =< I can't believe that someone would be that rude.

...on the flip side, though, isn't it somewhat flattering to know that someone would go through all that trouble to take credit for something that you did, just because it's that damned awesome? ;D  (Although it guess they got lazy because, as you pointed out, they didn't wanna take the boob water marks away...)

But, I digress. It's probably far more annoying than it is flattering. Sorry that had to happen to you, lady. And sorry it's being such a hassle to get it taken down. =(

I think I'm more annoyed by the fact that they did such a crappy job at hiding my signature LOL

It IS flattering in a sense though. :) That's a given. I guess it's a little bit of both lol

I didn't think Photobucket would be such a problem. Oy... Hopefully I'll get an answer from the guy who posted the image soon enough :)

Huh, that's kinda funny actually. Why bother blurring out the signature if you're not even able to remove the watermark in the first place? Ah, silly human... I would have said report it, but you're right. The watermark is still there so it's still obviously your work ^_^

Yeah... And it's a very poor job as well. I almost feel more insulted by that then the fact that the picture was stolen lol

Watermarks are a good idea, but look at the new Photoshop feature called 'Content Aware Fill'. It might be able to remove watermarks.
