No really. I think I'll cook them too.

So I took out that good ol' Genesis Collection: Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection and on this compilation is one game I used to love (and STILL love), Phantasy Star IV. Sadly I never got to finish it and so I decided now was the time.

The graphics, compared to today's standards, are obviously awkward, but they still hold quite a bit of charm to this day - and they were quite good for the time. The controls are easy to use, the characters enjoyable and the cut scenes gorgeous (again, if you don't compare it to today's games). I guess it's really the storytelling that makes this game stand out for me.

That being said... I got one peeve and I learned to remember it now that I'm more then half way through.

Whoever had the brilliant idea to have 50 enemy encounters within every 2 square feet (game wise) is a fucking MORON</b>. Unless you're looking to level up, it is a COMPLETE waste of time and an annoyance that cannot be explained. This makes exploring dungeons tedeous and frustrating to say the least. It takes me about 10 steps to get to a certain doorway and I'm not kidding, I had 5 encounters</b> before I FINALLY reached the door! I mean... seriously?! Sure, you can run from the fights and I admit that when I get annoyed enough I get out of the fights but it doesn't... always... work. How hard is it to include an item that makes enemy encounters less frequent or non-existant for a short while!? Final Fantasy did it and I'm pretty sure it doesn't take a genius to think about it!

UUUUUGH!

That is all. *returns to her game*

I'm sure the game designers simply wanted the players to become ultra powerful gods of battle by the time they got to the boss fights. They'll throw everything they can at you and you'll just casually crush them for staining your boots. Best example of that for me was fighting Zeromus with a level 99 party in FF4. It's jaw dropping when the most powerful speel in the game does 74 damage at the most. Found this little cheat, see if it helps:

When examining the nearby area with the action command, the next step you take is guaranteed not to take you into a battle. Keep hitting the action command while you walk, so that after every step it will say ''There seems to be nothing unusual here.'' As long as you do so, no random encounters will happen, but it will take quite a while to maneuver through dungeons this way.

oooh! Thanks! I'll have to try that.

As I said, it's fine when lvl'ing up is needed (and sometimes a little scary ;) lol ) but I'm more then high enough for these encounters, so all the encounters get annoying.

It may take a while, but if it allows me to explore dungeons better, then I'll definitely give it a shot. :)

Thanks again!

Sadly running from fights kind of only benefits new games. If you skip a fight in older games it's most likely gonna come back and bite you in the rear cause you're characters aren't strong enough later (supposed it can be compensated by grinding levels later again). Still tho, agreed on the frequent battles part :D

That's the thing. I'm more then high level enough at this point. I just wanna know if I didn't miss anything, but it goes something like this:

"Oh! I don't think I went in this corri--" *encounter* "Okay, let's see what's in the corridor." *2steps, encounter* ".... so about this corri--" *encounter* "... this is getti--: *encounter* "SERIOUSLY!? WHAT THE FU--" *encounter* "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRR--" *encounter*

The encounters are not hard at all at this point and I basically kill them all in one swipe without them doing more then a couple of points of damage. It eventually gets frustrating enough that I just teleport out of the dungeon and go about the story regardless of me missing any items.
