The title said it all!

Hey guys!

I'm in need of my watchers' advice.

Some of you have been following me since I joined in 2003, some of you have followed me in the following years, and some have only recently joined. I can't express how happy I am with this community and my watchers. You truly are wonderful, and that is why I'm asking for your thoughts.

My art has wavered, altered, and changed a lot since I joined in 2003. I find I'm at a new peak lately (and surely it will keep progressing), but I find myself surprised each time an old piece of mine (such as the Silent Hill calendars) keep getting favs. While I'm certainly flattered, I don't really know how to feel about it. It's such old works and honestly, I don't really see them as "good" anymore. They're interesting in that you can see the progress though....

Although I do get slightly annoyed when someone posts a critic on those old pieces. While the people who post these critics are only looking forward to helping me, sadly, it doesn't help at all because there's nothing for me to work on. Not to mention, I feel like I'm wasting their time. I'd hate to sound like an artist who cannot take critic when it's not the case at all. I'd much rather have people critic my newest pieces then 7 year old pieces I'll never work on again... See what I mean?

So what do you guys think? Do you think I should remove the pieces of the past and keep the newest ones? Or do you feel they're an important part of my gallery?

I'd keep them. You can turn off comments on them I think.

It's not necessary.

I would reccomend taking them all out of your "Featured" gallery and shove them all in a "Old works" folder.

If you are sick of getting comments on those submissions, it is possible to disable that. [I learned my lesson on the "Storage" issue, and checked this time. You really can do this]

Just click "edit deviation" next to each image you don't want to get any more comments on, and scroll down. You will see a check box that says "Allow Comments (Recommended)" ... un-check the box, and no one can post comments on that submission any more.

You gallery looks cleaner, and you don't have to keep getting pointless comments any more, but nothing has to be deleted.

Sure ... it might take a while doing this one-by-one if there is a lot of them.

However, this is the course I would recommend at this time. Old stuff is still good and worth seeing, even if the newer stuff is much better. It's cool to see how far an artist has come. (and even the flawed old stuff remains timelessly cool in it's own ways sometimes)

Thank you for your input. :)

Many have suggested to put the works in a seperate folder for old works and disable comments. Yeah, it was long, took me all morning, but it was worth it. I made folders for each year (2003 to 2008) and left 2009 and 2010 untouched. This way people also have a clearer view of how old the pieces are. I also added that if they really wanted to let me know their thoughts on those pieces, to send me a note. :)

I really enjoy your old works. I don't think you should take them down.

Isn't there a setting where you can say if you want critiquing on an artwork piece or not? Just discourage critiquing with your old works and you should be fine, if that is your biggest concern. :)

People rarely listen to that lol Even though none of my work holds the critic option, I always get it (I don't mind unless it's 6 year old work though lol )

Oh, OK. Then I go with what everyone else has said then: Disable comments! :P

I love your old work. Brings back memories. :D

I think you should keep them. Deactivate comments, put them all in a special "Oldies" folder and remove them from your Featured gallery, or maybe even Scrap them. But I find it always too bad when someone deleted their old pictures. They're a part of our evolution, and it's interesting for others as well, IMHO, to be able to see how our art has changed along the years. (Besides, those who have faved them won't be able to see them again on their page. :p)

That's likely what I'm going to do. It seems most would rather I keep them, and I can see why. :)

I admit, I do love seeing how other artists have evolved with time so I completely understand.
