This is sad!

This is so sad.

With the internet and today's means of communication, it's quite easy to come across a lot of people's lives nowadays. Just look at this website, forums, etc....

This year I truly came to realize how fucking spoiled children are. I see them complain because all they got was a laptop</b> and an IPod</b> for X-Mas. Complain because they only got 5 PS3/Xbox 360 games</b>. Because ALL the got was 500$</b>. Because ALL they got was a list longer then my arm which was ridiculously expensive, but they didn't have the Wii they asked for (nm the PS3, laptop and blackberry from that list). And they DARE call their parents cheap</b>?!

When I was a kid, I was lucky if I got ONE Sega Genesis game. The biggest presents I ever got during my childhood were a Sega Genesis for my 12th birthday, a VCR and a cat for my 15th Christmas. Oh, and a cd/cassette Radio when I was 13 I believe. The rest were small things. A cd here, a game there and clothes. Usually no more then a 100$ in cash, or they helped me pay half of my train tickets to visit my best friend. Makes your list look like a millionaire's gig, don't it?

STOP COMPLAINING! ENJOY WHAT YOU HAVE! STOP BEING SO SELFISH AND SEE WHAT YOU HAVE, NOT WHAT YOU DON'T HAVE!

I swear, I'll work my hardest to make sure my child NEVER turns out that way.

Warmed my heart reading your opinion.
The world may end tomorrow and everybody has their noses in their wallets.

Yeah, so very true... "Will I have enough money when the bombs drop? I don't want to look poor!" -_-; Come ON!...

It's sad to see adults act this way, but it's a LOT sadder seeing children act the same way as if all that's important is appearance and the value of their accessories. I remember when I was a kid, I had 5$ a week for doing my chores. If I missed just one, I didn't have my 5$. I see kids flip and complain they didn't get their 80$ a week allowance because their parents couldn't afford it that week. Who cares if the parents couldn't afford it, they DESERVED their allowance even though they did nothing to earn it.

I've said it often but... I want to make sure my child never gets that stupid mentality. 5$ a week is probably all he/she'll get, and they'll have to be happy with that as long as they do all their chores and homework.

Good LORD. I remember as a kid when I got my Playstation 2. That was ALL I got and I was overjoyed. If I had a killed and they pulled that shit I'd beat their ass so hard they'd be happy with a piece of coal next Christmas.

LOL We're very alike in that aspect.

I EARNED what I got. There was no getting what I wanted without earning it. I remember I got a VCR for my 14th X-Mas and I was SO ecstatic! Oh and a cat. I got a few Sega Genesis games but again, I had earned them. And I never EVER complained about what I got. I enjoyed it.

My child won't like me if he/she pulls that crap on me. As you said... coal for next Christmas >;P

*Sigh*... just another unfortunate sign of the times, spoiled little scamps. Just looking at what some of these young'uns moan and groan about makes me feel much older than I should, heh. I was born and raised in the boonies of Salcha, AK myself, and the most gaudy presents I ever received growing up were hand made articles of clothing (tanned leather gloves, buckskin undercoats, wool sweaters, etc.), a good piece of diamond willow (I liked to whittle), or a good book. Guess what? I loved, appreciated, and used/abused every one of them.
I got my kid cousins a few good books, a Korean chessboard, and a few poncho liners this Christmas and not only do they not squabble amongst themselves for them or complain that they didn't get something better, but they actually enjoy the heck out of them together. Watching kids like them give me a bit of a boost of morale as far as the younger generations are going.
In conclusion, try not to let the "Verucas" (oblige me the Willy Wonka reference) of the world ruin your fun, and good luck molding your child to be exempt of such vain traits.

I do feel much older then I am when I see this. I'm 27. It's not that far off. I can see people 5 years younger then me act like spoiled brats. 5 years! It's not a lot, and certainly not enough to call it a generation difference. When I worked at a gas station 3 years ago, I was 23-24 and had to train 18 year olds... I wanted to bite my wrists off each time. The less they did, the happier they were. Nevermind they had a job to do... "I" could do it. And when I put my foot down, I was considered an inconsiderate bitch. When I left (I was there 6 years during my college and university years) I reminded the manager that I was NOT a mother and I wasn't going to be there to pamper her little brats anymore.

When it comes to presents, it was the same for me. I had a few, never a lot, but those I got, I appreciated. Something as simple as a Diary with a little lock meant the world to me (I think I still have it too! ;) ). One year, I was doing well in school and I asked for a Super Nintendo. My parents got me a Sega Genesis for my birthday. I was a little shocked at first, but they explained that the clerk had told them the Genesis was oriented more at young teenagers then the Super Nintendo (not really true but anyways lol ). I was perfectly happy with that and I never EVER complained. Instead, when there was a SNES game I wanted to play, I'd save my money and rented the console and games. Later I saved my own money to get me a PS2, but by then I had a job and could afford it. I also saved my money to buy my own Genesis games, and IF I had good grades, I could get ONE game on either Christmas or my birthday. I see kids complain because they only got 5 XBox360 or PS3 games for Christmas... What the hell?! I admit though.... I'm a video game junkie, as well as a book junkie. Any book they gave me, I'd read them too. I never complained. Clothes, books, games... bring 'em! I loved them all and I never, ever complained. We weren't poor, but I was an only child, and I think they were worried I would become spoiled. They did a find job. :)

It won't ruin my fun, no worries :) As I said, I'm just gonna work hard so my child doesn't become one big materialist who only sees the value of things. I say this because I'm currently 4 months pregnant and my boyfriend and I are very, very excited. But seeing all those kids complaining scared me a little - it also helped though. I know what to do and what not to do now. :)

I sympathize a lot with that statement, as I don't even expect anything for christmas or my birthday. I try my best to be selfless, going as far as spending my christmas money on gifts for the others considering how I'm on the welfare and can't afford to spend anything on them.

Anyway, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who acknowledges this terrible fact of life, that people today are so spoiled and immoral. I think that it'll only get worse from here, so we better get used to this before they drop A-Bombs on Australia for thinking that there's terrorists on the country.

It IS very sad...

I've seen kids get angry at their parents because it wasn't the "color" they wanted.

You're a very kind person and I do hope people around you recognize the efforts you put out for them. I don't know a lot of people who would spend their Christmas money on other people. Hell... I don't know anyone who would.

It may get worst, but I'll work hard so my child knows the value of earning what they get, and to enjoy what they have, not what they don't have. Yesterday even, I saw on the front page how some 15 year old was pissed at their parents because they were taking away his laptop due to bad grades. He was angry and didn't understand the point, etc... And he'd try to go behind his mother's back to coax his dad to let him have some laptop time anyway. By 15, I understood why things were taken away from me. Hell, I didn't have things taken away from me because I was responsible and would work hard not to get into trouble with my parents. And what did his precious watchers answer? "Omg your parents are SUCH assholes!", etc... Here's another reason why internet time will be VERY watched.

But I've been striving away from the subject. :) Thanks for posting, it's always nice to find I'm not alone with this train of thought. It gives me some hope that not all children will turn out badly.

As for dropping A-Bombs... Well we're pretty much in the same boat in Canada. lol We're the neighbors from the US, but we're being more and more pushed away and watched more at the borders then most other countries. -_-; We used not to need a passport to go shopping in New York. Now you better have a passport or you'll never go through. Eventually they'll just fix the problem and drop the bombs on us in case some more terrorists would hide among us. -_-;

The borders have these insane rules behind them too. Apparently, you can't get into the States if you've committed the slightest of crimes, possession of grass being a relative's case. I'm not going into detail about it, but he can't get in because of it now. I always figured that since you put the time for the crime, you shouldn't be stricken from any benefits after the conviction. But I'm not really troubled by it for two reasons: that I've never committed a crime....yet.... and that I don't even have a car to drive to the States with.

I never thought we'd be watched the most, but I guess it shows just how much paranoia isolationism had made the U.S.A., considering how they never had a war in their country, or even an invasion of any sort. It's appropriate to take those precautions when it first happens, and I'll give them that. Strange part about it, was that during my time in British Columbia, I used to live near the border, and I heard that someone saw a fully equipped army patrol walking around near his residence; and I mean FULLY equipped. I had a good laugh at it, but then it got me thinking, if the States were to invade us, we'd be pretty much screwed from all sides, with Alaska being a state and all.
